What I Offer

I am known for meticulous planning, exciting lessons and rigorous marking and feedback, but also as someone who brings my subject alive - even within the restraints of what can sometimes feel an unrelenting exam focused curriculum. I strive to inspire my students; not only so they feel confident going into their exams, but because I hope to instil a love of language, literature and learning that will last forever.

My sessions are completely bespoke and personalised to each of my tutees. I set weekly assignments and provide detailed feedback, which we discuss in subsequent sessions so students can learn how to really act upon the advice. I always do this whilst making sure I build confidence and self esteem, supporting students to become motivated and resilient learners.

I am based south of Norwich, just off the A146 and have a garden studio for students who prefer face-to-face tuition. However, most of my tutees now choose to have their sessions online for flexibility and ease, which allows me to tutor students from all over the world, across different time zones. I use a number of online learning tools and will discuss which platforms students are more familiar with during our initial consultation.

1 : 1 Sessions

These are completely tailored to suit the student’s individual needs and include weekly homework, detailed marking and feedback.

We begin with a (free) consultation to discuss your specific requirements and to allow me to establish a personalised plan of support. This will look different for each student, however the 'core' of what I offer in weekly tuition includes:

Highly focused, exam-based tuition practising lots of timed written responses, both in lessons and as homework.
Written work assessed using exam board mark schemes and assessment objectives, but with the exam board jargon explained and grade boundaries demystified.
Lots of direct instruction and generous encouragement to help students improve, always with precise advice given.
Exemplar pieces and model answers to help students fully understand, and emulate, what a good text looks and feels like.

Rates:

GCSE and A-level (or IB / iGCSE equivalent) 1 : 1 sessions are priced at £45 per hour.

ENGLISH AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE

I offer 1 : 1 tuition and small group sessions to young people and adults who require support in learning English as an additional language.

I can support:

Students who are new to English to make rapid progress in learning the language so they can confidently use it in both social and academic situations.
Adults who are looking to improve their conversational English, perhaps to expand work prospects, or just to boost their confidence when using everyday language.
Preparations for an IELTS/CAE/FCE/ESOL exam.

Sessions (and pricing) will be tailored to suit the individual needs of the language learner. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.

Small Group Tuition (GCSE)

I am happy to accommodate requests for GCSE students to book tuition with a friend, or in a small group. Working collaboratively has many benefits for students and it can be a fun and more affordable way to receive tuition.

Rates:

2 students = £25 per session
3 - 4 students = £20 per session
5 - 6 students = £15 per session

Just like the 1 : 1 tuition, each student will have a baseline consultation prior to the first session so I can then tailor an appropriate tuition programme. The group will work collaboratively in the weekly live session, but each student will independently complete homework and they will privately receive individual feedback.

EDITING, PROOF READING SERVICES AND CV / JOB APPLICATION SUPPORT

A lover of words and someone with a keen eye for grammar and spelling, I also offer a proofreading and text editing service.

Whether it is an academic essay, a thesis, a university personal statement, a job application, a CV, or even a wedding speech, I can proofread your work and correct any spelling and grammar errors. Where appropriate, I will also make suggestions to improve the style and clarity to ensure your document is perfectly polished before submission.

My proofreading prices are competitive, tailored fairly to the amount of work involved in each project. When providing a quotation, I will consider the word count and whether it is a simple spelling, grammar and punctuation check, or more of a 'deep dive' where I can play with your language for style, clarity and effect.
